No crisis in the Emergency Dept today - and thankfully the living donor transplants of the past week are doing so well . Ms L looks fantastic, but her donor and sister in law, has a bad case of the (post op) blues. Her left kidney was removed with a laparoscopic operation done by the master: surgeon Anesh Naidoo (keyhole surgery) and a little bit of help from me - Through floods of tears, insisting that she is very happy to have donated, not in pain, has no regrets, its just that she has this inexplicable need to cry. I wasn't sure if calling her husband to come and sit with her would make her feel better. I suggested she wash her hair and put on some lipstick.
Two guys also got new kidneys this week, one from his son, the other from a friend - no more tedious and time consuming dialysis for them.
